Step 5: Signing into your WordPress installation

Your website is up and running, now what?  Now we need to sign into your website where you can start customizing it to stand out from the pack.  WordPress is full of custom settings.  You can read about WordPress administration by the folks that created WordPress.  For the time being, we’ll walk through the basics.

This is how your website looks after the initial installation.  It doesn’t look like much, does it?  We’ll spend many steps choosing settings, uploading a custom theme, and making it look like your dream website.  The one you want all your customers to see.

Base WordPress Setup

Your website will look like the image above.  Note the “Log In” link at the bottom right of the page.  When you installed WordPress at MDD Hosting, you chose a Username and Password.  Click the Log In link shown above and you’ll be taken to a log-in screen (shown below).  The log-in page for your website will always be www.your-site-name.com/wp-admin.  Bookmark this page for future use.

WordPress Sign-in Web Page

Enter your Username and Password and click “Log In”.  From here, you’ll be taken to the WordPress “Dashboard” for your website.  This will be the starting point for all future changes to your website.  From here you can navigate to the many settings pages within your WordPress installation.

WordPress Dashboard Page

You are now signed into your website WordPress administration page.  Next we’ll set some basic settings to get you started.

    Doug,
I have to say that your step by step tutorial of this craziness was outstanding! I have a PhD in technology and was terrified at the thought of going through everything, but your writing and screenshots were so effective, it took me less than 30 minutes to go from step 1 to step 5.
I’d give you an A+ for what you’ve posted!
